About Lucas
The mitten state has a long, rich history of diverse musical pioneers. Lansing-area native Lucas Powell is beginning to establish his niche in the Michigan indie scene. With a banjo in one hand and a Fender Stratocaster in the other, Powell writes dynamic songs that draw comparisons to major folk-rock mainstays including Noah Gundersen, Phoebe Bridgers, and Joshua James. Combining introspective storytelling layered over an eclectic variety of styles, ranging from finger-picked acoustic instruments in one moment to walls of indie rock sound in the next.
Powell’s debut album Michigan was recorded remotely during the 2020 COVID-19 Pandemic. Michigan is a compilation of songs he has written over the past seven years.
Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do. Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
